And his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them.

II Peter 1:16-19

For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

SLIDE

Application - Christianity is unashamedly supernatural. The power of the Kingdom can and does break into our world. We should eagerly expect that.

Competing Spectacles - Tony Reinke

The human heart bends toward what the eye sees. Today’s image makers fling into the world digital spectacles of sex, wealth, power, and popularity. Those images get inside us, shape us, and form our lives in ways that compete with God’s design for our focus and worship. (p.118)

Satan blinds hearts by filling eyes with worthless things. His veil over human hearts today is a veil of pixels…(p.133)

SLIDE

II Cor 3:18

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

SLIDE

Application - Gaze upon the world and become DEFORMED…Gaze upon Christ and be TRANSFORMED

SLIDE

Mark 9:4

And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.

Luke 9:30-31

And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah, 31 who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.

SLIDE

Mark 9:5-6

And Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.”For he did not know what to say, for they were terrified.

Luke 9:32-33

Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they became fully awake they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said.

SLIDE

Application - Prayer…if at first you don’t succeed try, try again

SLIDE

Psalm 33:8

Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!

Proverbs 1:7

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 14:27

The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death.

Psalm 25:14

The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant.

SLIDE

Mark 9:7

And a cloud [a bright cloud (Matt 17)] overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son; [my Chosen One (Luke 9)] [with whom I am well pleased (Matt 17)] listen to him.”

SLIDE

II Corinthians 4:3-6

And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God…God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

SLIDE

II Peter 1:16-19

For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts,

SLIDE

Application - Believing is seeing. We have seen Jesus’ glory in salvation. We can now see Jesus’ glory in his word. We will see Jesus’ glory when he returns.

SLIDE

Mark 9:8-13

And suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them but Jesus only.

And as they were coming down the mountain, he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what this rising from the dead might mean. And they asked him, “Why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?” And he said to them, “Elijah does come first to restore all things. And how is it written of the Son of Man that he should suffer many things and be treated with contempt? But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.”

SLIDE

MALACHI 4:5-6

“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes. And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.”
