Rescipleship  |  John 15:1-11

--

Slides and Lab:

[Pause]

Discuss, or journal:

- What is a disciple?

- What does a disciple do?

- What is the most important thing a disciple can do in regards to making other disciples?

Our theme: Apart from Christ, we can do no good thing.

Rescipleship- Discipleship in the context of relationship.

Relationships are how we are connected.

Disciples follow after Jesus and encourage others to pursue Christ by proclaiming the gospel, teaching sound doctrine, and modeling spiritual practices.

[Pause]

Discuss or journal:

- What is your heart clinging to right now?

- Where have your thoughts been abiding this week?

- Are there any false vines in your life? (control, productivity, approval, distractions, fear, money)

- Who is the true vine?

[Pause]

Practice silence and listening for the Lord.

Disciples follow after Jesus and encourage others to pursue Christ by proclaiming the gospel, teaching sound doctrine, and modeling spiritual practices.

Sunday Equipping Classes: 4th Sunday of the month at 4:12pm in the youth room.

LAB:

Personal Discipleship:

- What does abiding in Christ look like right now for you?

- What would you like it to look like?

- What steps can you take tomorrow?

- Jesus said “deny yourself, take up your cross and follow Me”.  Is there any place in your life not submitted to Christ? Anything that you are holding onto that is keeping you from following after him in making disciples? (schedule, fear, apathy)

- Do you think of Spiritual disciplines as a joy? Why?

Disciple Making:

- Is there anyone in your life that you are helping follow Jesus?

- Is there anyone already in your life that you could come alongside and help follow after Jesus?

Can you list 5 people? (neighbors, co-workers, mom you keep bumping into, gym acquaintance)

- Consider your schedule, hobbies, and life. Now consider the list of 5 people you made. Is there anything you are already doing (or want to do) that you could invite one of those people into? (knitting at Waffle House, playing disc golf, rebuilding a motorcycle, taking your kids to the playground…)

- What are some good questions you could ask to learn about that person’s Spiritual life? (“What brings you joy?”, “What are you most looking forward to?”, “What has been the most important book, or movie you’ve read or seen recently?”)

Parents, an idea for engaging with your kids in this passage:

- Show them a stick, say it is from an Apple tree - ask, can it grow an apple? Only if it is connected to the tree. Read John 15:1-11

- Unplug a lamp. Ask them to turn it on. Ask - Why will the lamp not shine? It must be plugged in… Read Matthew 5:14-16
