Slide: Are spiritual gifts still in use today? If so, when will they end?

Slide: Love never fails, but gifts are only temporary.

Slide: Romans 13:8 Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled [the] law. 9 For this, "YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, YOU SHALL NOT MURDER, YOU SHALL NOT STEAL, YOU SHALL NOT COVET," and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF." 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of [the] law.

Slide: Love never fails, but gifts are only partial.

Slide: Isaiah 55:8 "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," declares the LORD. 9 "For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts.

Slide: 1 John 3:1 See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and [such] we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.

Slide: When will the gifts cease?
· When the perfect comes
· When we see face to face

Slide: The cessationist argument:
· The miraculous gifts only existed to authenticate the apostles.
· The completion of the New Testament rendered the gifts obsolete.
· Miracles were reserved for three periods in history.
· Absence of experience.

Slide: The continuationist argument:
· Non-apostolic men and women performing signs and miracles in the Scriptures
· Presence of spiritual gifts in the epistles.
· The “perfect” has not come
· The absence of any doctrinal statement on cessationism.
· Experience.

Slide: 1 John 4:8 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

Slide: Don’t stop believin’
· Faith in the gifts is a reasonable faith.
· Let the Word lead in the black and white and the church in the grey.
· We’re going to make mistakes.
· Love is greater than gifts.

Slide: 1 Corinthians 11:25 In the same way [He took] the cup also after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink [it,] in remembrance of Me." 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes. 27 Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. 28 But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly. 30 For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep.
