The wilderness is the way of God to wean us from the most precious things in the world. And those who savor the vision of God know that his love is better than all that this life can give. - Piper
Deuteronomy 8:2
And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart…
Our goal: To let the Lord teach us through Psalm 63 how to be satisfied in the wilderness.
“Human desire is infinite by its nature. You must take your stand against it because you cannot satisfy it. Desire is infinite partly because we were made by God, made for God, made to need God, and made to run on God. We can be satisfied only by the one who is infinite, eternal, and able to supply all our needs; we are only at home in God. When we are distanced from God, the desire for the infinite remains, but it is displaced upon things that will certainly lead to destruction” -Dallas Willard
Jeremiah speaks to this: Jeremiah 2:11-13 "Has a nation changed gods when they were not gods? But My people have changed their glory for that which does not profit... For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, The fountain of living waters, To hew for themselves cisterns, Broken cisterns that can hold no water.
“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” -Lewis
Jeremiah 29:13-14
You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you…
This kind of peace is the result of praise.
- Philippians 4:4, 7 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice… And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
