Fidelity - Faithfulness to a person, cause or belief demonstrated by continuing loyalty and support.
Philippians 1:20-21
I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
1 Samuel 4:3
When the people came into the camp, the elders of Israel said, “Why has the LORD defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us take to ourselves from Shiloh the ark of the covenant of the LORD, that it may come among us and deliver us from the power of our enemies.”
2 Samuel 17:14
Then Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel.” For the LORD had ordained to thwart the good counsel of Ahithophel, so that the LORD might bring calamity on Absalom.
How was this fidelity cultivated?
- Ittai fought alongside David.
- Zadok worshiped with David.
- Hushai was a friend and servant of David.
David’s suffering was a consequence of his own sin.
Christ’s suffering was for our sin.
Matthew 24:9-14
“they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name. At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. This gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.
