There is nothing greater in life than to have God with us!
1 Samuel 23:16
And Jonathan, Saul's son, arose and went to David at Horesh, and encouraged him in God.
1 Chronicles 10:13-14
So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against the LORD, because of the word of the LORD which he did not keep; and also because he asked counsel of a medium, making inquiry [of it,] 14 and did not inquire of the LORD. Therefore He killed him and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.
The picture of David vs. Saul is a picture of “God with us” vs. “God gave them up.”
Psalm 103:8-11
The LORD is compassionate and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. 9 He will not always strive [with us,] Nor will He keep [His anger] forever. 10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him.
Romans 1:28-32
And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; [they are] gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; 32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.
Saul and David also show us the nature of true repentance.
2 Corinthians 7:9-11
I now rejoice, not that you were made sorrowful, but that you were made sorrowful to [the point of] repentance; for you were made sorrowful according to [the will of] God, so that you might not suffer loss in anything through us. 10 For the sorrow that is according to [the will of] God produces a repentance without regret, [leading] to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death. 11 For behold what earnestness this very thing, this godly sorrow, has produced in you: what vindication of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what avenging of wrong! In everything you demonstrated yourselves to be innocent in the matter.
Jesus came according to the Scriptures, and He’s coming again!
Psalm 22:7-8, 16-18
All who see me sneer at me; They separate with the lip, they wag the head, [saying,] 8 "Commit [yourself] to the LORD; let Him deliver him; Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him." ... 16 For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my hands and my feet. 17 I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me; 18 They divide my garments among them, And for my clothing they cast lots.
We can die a sinner’s death (like Saul) or accept the free gift of God through the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ.
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
